The 100 meters long SuperSeaCat craft are aluminum mono-hull
vessels designed and built by Fincantieri in Genoa, Italy, one of the world’s
leading shipbuilders, with exterior styling by Pininfarina.
Built from 400 tonnes of aluminum, the craft have a deep V-shaped hull, designed
to afford the highest levels of passenger comfort. SuperSeaCat’s service speed
is approximately 34 knots under a full load of 340 tonnes, powered by engines
supplied by GEC Alsthom Ruston of Merseyside, England.
SuperSeaCat’s four Ruston 20 cylinder RK 270 diesel engines, each producing a
maximum of 6,875 kilowatts, drive four Kamewa water-jets, which also steer the
craft and, with the assistance of two bow thrusters, allow easy maneuverability
in harbors. The craft is fitted with a fully computerized ride control system,
featuring stern trim tabs and bow T-foil fin stabilizers to maximize passenger
comfort, provided by Vosper Thornycroft Maritime Dynamics Inc
